Freida Pinto Selena (born October 18, 1984, Bombay, Maharashtra, India) is an Indian actress and professional model of Catholic Christian education, best known for her role as Latika in the movie Slumdog Millionaire winning the Academy Award best Picture of 2008. Pinto won a GUILD award for outstanding performance as actress and was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress.
Freida Pinto was born in Mumbai, the daughter of Frederick and Sylvia Pinto, the first being Baroda Bank Manager and mother is the director of a school (St. John's Universal High School). His father is originally from Neerude Derebail and mother (both towns near Bangalore). His surname is of Portuguese origin, due to the result of the conversion of their ancestors to Catholicism by missionaries.
Her family grew up in the Catholic community in Bangalore and Hawaii. Her older sister Sharon is an associate producer of a local news channel (NDTV news channel). Pinto studied at Carmel Institute of St. Joseph School in Malad (Mumbai suburb) and completed his Bachelor of Arts and Literature at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. She has studied different forms of classical dances of India, as well as salsa.
