Zachary David Alexander "Zac" Efron (San Luis Obispo, California, United States, October 18, 1987) is an American actor of film and television. In addition to his acting work, for which he has been awarded the MTV Movie Awards and People's Choice.
He began his career by appearing as a guest on television programs during the 2000s, and since then has appeared in films where he plays comic, dramatic and musical roles. He is known for his portrayal of student Troy Bolton in Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical, repeated role in High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year. He has also appeared in over ten films, including titles like Hairspray, 17 Again, Me and Orson Welles, and Charlie St. Cloud include The Lucky One.
Efron was born in San Luis Obispo, California, and later moved to Arroyo Grande, California. His father, David Efron, is an engineer at a power plant , and his mother , Starla Baskett , is a former secretary who worked at the same power plant. Efron has a younger brother , Dylan, and had a "normal childhood " in a middle class family . It is an agnostic , has never been religious . His surname, " Efron " , means "lark " in Hebrew (his paternal grandfather was Jewish ).
