Before acting, he was a model for Abercrombie & Fitch and participated in the music video of the single With Love by Hilary Duff.
Lutz is, by age, in the middle of six brothers and a sister, but interestingly is the highest of all. It is of German descent. During his childhood he lived in various places, especially in the Midwest and Arizona. After graduating from high school, he moved to California to attend Chapman University for chemical engineering, but later decided to pursue acting instead, though his parents were not quite agree. Kellan can speak Spanish by the fact that he lived six months in the Dominican Republic.
In Lutz's free time, he likes to make skateboarding, weight training, track, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, swimming, squash, tennis, badminton, skiing, snowboarding and many other activities.
It also has a passion for horror films, and prefers to perform his own stunts when making films.
Lutz has close friendships with his Twilight co-stars, particularly Jackson Rathbone and Ashley Greene, who knew before starting to shoot the movie and actor Peter Facinelli, whom he met during filming. It is also a good friend of actor Xavier Samuel.
In 2009 began dating actress AnnaLynne McCord, the relationship ended in 2010.
In 2011 she began dating Australian model and actress Sharni Vinson. They finished in May, 2013.
