Dana Elaine Owens (born March 18, 1970 in Newark, New Jersey), better known by her stage name Queen Latifah, is an American singer, rapper and actress. Her work in music, film and television has earned her a Grammy and five other nominations for these awards, a nomination for an Emmy and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
His real name is Dana Elaine Owens , daughter of Lancelot and Rita Owens. Early in his career, he was a member of Flavor Unit ( record label that currently belongs ) , at that time , were a group of presenters who gathered around producer DJ Mark the 45 King . He was also a member of the Nation of Gods and Earths , the Faradian Islam , Muslims formed by African Americans . After achieving success , DJ Mark the 45 King began to abuse drugs and Latifah left the team , forming his own management company with the help of Jake Abrams. Latifah started her career beatboxing for doing the rap group Ladies Fresh. In 1988 , DJ Mark the 45 King heard a demo of a simple Latifah ( "Princess of the Posse " ) and gave it to Fab Five Freddy , who was the producer of Yo! MTV Raps . Freddy helped Latifah sign with Tommy Boy Records , who produced their first album, All Hail the Queen , in [ 1989, when he was 19. In the same year , he appeared as a guest on UK to record the live album " 1989 -The Hustlers Convention (live) " .
His debut was a commercial success and the critics , and was followed by the albums Nature of a Sista and Black Reign , getting a Grammy for her hit single, UNITY In 1998 , he made his fourth album of hip hop; Order in the Court . The July 11, 2007 , he made his debut at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles with a performance at a jazz concert before an audience of 12,400 people , supported by an orchestra of ten instruments and three vocalists, The Queen Latifah Orchestra call . Trav'lin Latifah released her album 'Light the September 25, 2007 singing their own versions of classics.
