He is the son of Maree and Clifford Samuel, has an older sister named Bridget (stage director) and a younger brother Samuel Benedict (writer, producer and actor).
Xavier was born in Hamilton, Victoria and raised in Adelaide, South Australia.
In 2001 graduated from Rostrevor College, also took drama classes at the Christian Brothers College under the tutelage of Amanda Portus. He also attended Flinders University Drama Centre in 2005 where he studied with renowned acting teacher Professor Julie Holledge.
Samuel follows Australian football and is a supporter of the Adelaide Crows in the AFL.
Since 2010 goes with the model of Iranian origin, winner of Miss Europe Shermine in Shahrivar 2005.
