Gellar was born on April 14, 1977 in New York, United States. Only child of Rosellen (née Greenfield), a teacher in a nursery school, and Arthur Gellar, a worker clothing. Although his parents were Jewish, became the Christmas tree during childhood Gellar, Her parents divorced in 1984 and Gellar went to live with his mother who grew up in the Upper East Side. Gellar met her husband Freddie Prinze , Jr. in the 1997 film I Know What You Did Last Summer though their relationship was not made public until 2001, and then got engaged and married in Mexico on September 1, 2002 in an official ceremony , Lindsay Sloane. In 2007 , Gellar legally changed her name to Sarah Michelle Prinze in honor of the fifth year of their marriage. She is a friend of well known actresses such as Michelle Trachtenberg, Shannen Doherty and Kristin Chenoweth . Gellar has said in interviews that they believe in God, but does not belong to an organized religion. He also told on occasion that collects rare editions of classic children's literature.
