Benicio del Toro and Josh Hutcherson reach Mexican rooms with 'Escobar'

The movie "Escobar" directed by Andrea Di Stefano and starring Josh Hutcherson, Claudia Traisac and Benicio del Toro will premiere nationally on Thursday 15 January in commercial cinemas.

With the production of Dimitri Rassam and the script of Andrea Di Stefano and Francesca Marciano, the film tells how a young Canadian surfer comes to a small town in Colombia to meet his brother and begins an affair with the niece of a powerful capo.

The surfer, who believes that there has found paradise (an idyllic dream come true, with blue waters, white beaches and perfect waves), falls in love with the young Colombian. However, it might seem perfect soon becomes bloody, as you will need to survive and save the lives of their loved ones.

Under a violent atmosphere, filmography is unveiling the dual personality of Pablo Escobar, a founding member and leader of the Medellin cartel drug trafficker and one of the richest characters of his time.

According to Andrea Di Stefano, the idea of this film came to life when one of his friends in the police officer told the story of a man who Pablo Escobar charged with the task of keeping your hidden treasure, before ordering his execution.

Fascinated by history and treasure this figure, Di Stefano began investigating Escobar and his life, his eccentricities, his faith and his relationship with others.


"I think it's other admired and hated by the world, in almost equal measure. Even today in Colombia people pray for him and think he was a good guy, while a large number of people considered a monster, "explained the director, according to statements released by a known film distributor operating in Mexico.

To tell the director of the film, his job was simply to tell a story and make a film with a pure philosophical reading of this man. "Their violence will speak for him," he said.

He considered what you would like at the end of this co-production between France-Spain-Belgium is the audience to feel empathy for Nick (the surfer) and Mary (his girlfriend), but also by Paul.

"During the final scene, I would like to have a little compassion for this man," he said.

The film "Escobar" has already had its premiere in countries like France, Spain, Argentina and Uruguay; however, it has been delayed in the US.
