In 1983, when the novel by Mark Helprin on which is based this film was released , the critic for The New York Times Benjamin De Mott wrote in his review: " I had not read as funny work, thoughtful , passionate or as sense. Well used , might inspire and comfort us . A winter's Tale is a great gift for times of great need. " Unfortunately, in this adaptation of the first-time director and writer dedicated Akiva Goldsman is little left of that literary marvel. Considered an unfilmable

work by elements of magical realism and fantasy , in addition to the multiple time jumps that fill its 700 pages, the task of adapting the novel seems to have overcome skills Goldsman . Is that the expert writer and producer of films such as I Am Legend and A Beautiful Mind, among other hit films, was caught in the labyrinth of time jumps, the romantic story and the story of angels and demons have decided .

In the center of the whole mess is the story of Peter Lake, a baby arrives in 1895 with their immigrant parents to the shores of New York, where they are quickly expelled by health problems. In desperation, the parents decide to transform your child into a modern Moses on board a boat that will take literally to fruition. A few years later, the orphan is a thief with more talent and kindness that your boss, Pearly Soames, can accept.

The boy is played by Colin Farrell, a good actor to be here more than double pitfall of making credible that has little more than 20 years and avoid - to no avail - the viewer is distracted from their conflicts by the awful hairstyle touched him in luck. Pursued by the evil Soames, played with ridiculous exaggeration by Russell Crowe, Peter Lake know love played by the beautiful and dying Beverly Penn, a character who through interpretation and photogenic British Jessica Brown Findlay is the best movie. And, in fact , get at least for a while A Winter's Tale makes sense and even excited with that romance crossed by fate, a couple of miracles and the struggle between good and evil.
